What a Solar Powered Generator Can Do For You

A solar powered generator is used to convert some might into active energy. There are many uses for his solar power generator such as using it for backup source of energy during an electrical storm or other disaster or simply using it in your home or business to cut the costs on your electricity bill.

You might be interested to know that using a solar powered generator is the environmentally sound thing to do and can power everything that you commonly use in your home, such as your lighting, clothes dryer, and your electric stove. Businesses often use these types of large generators to help cut down on production costs in warehouses and plants. Here is a little more information about solar powered generators.

Purposes of a Generator:

As mentioned above, there are many uses for using a solar powered generator. Depending n the size of generator you choose, you can often get enough stored power to use in your entire home or business during a storm or other type of electrical power failure. This is the main reason why many people like to use these generators. You simply do not know, when such a failure will occur, and it is always good to have a backup source of power.

One of largest types of solar power generator is a 400 W generator, which are commonly used in large businesses. In fact, some companies say that these large generators can store enough power to operate for at least five days without being recharged. These large generators are usually mounted on a trailer and are easy to operate. The cost of maintaining and operating these 400 W solar powered generators is usually quite low.

If you are looking at installing one of these types of generators for your home or business, there are many companies that can provide you with this type of service. They can walk you through the process of ordering the right generator for your needs and help you with the delivery and installation

Once your generator arrives, you will find that these are easy to install and to begin using. You should also know that these generators, especially the larger versions, are very weatherproof, which means that you can place them just about anywhere on your property. They come pre-assembled, pre-wired and ready to convert sunlight into usable power. Once you have had the need of using a generator, you will wonder how you ever lived without one before.

Top Ten Ways to Cut Utility Costs

1) Install low flow shower heads. You can buy these at any hardware store for about $5-$10.The ones I installed, have a button to turn them off that helps save even more water.
2) Caulk your windows and around doors. Good caulking costs around $7/tube and you should be able to do your whole house with 3-4 tubes. You'll save enough in one winter to recover your investment. You can pay a handyman to do this or do it yourself. There are caulking tools you can buy that will make your work easy and look professional.
3) Turn your water heater down to 120. If you have Natural Gas service you could also consider a Tankless Water Heater. They can pay for themselves in 2-3 years.
4) Buy a Programmable Thermostat.. You can find them at any major lumber/hardware outlet. The cost range is $30-$100 for a good one. Set it to 68 in the winter and around 78 in the summer. This may take getting used to, but remember, the objective here is to lower your utility bill.
5) Wash clothes in cold water whenever you can. I've noticed some of the laundry soap companies are making detergent for cold water washing.
6) Change your light bulbs to Compact Florescent light bulbs (CFL). Have you looked at these? They use a fraction of the electricity and last 5 times longer so the savings is huge. They do cost more up front but they use a fraction of the electricity and last so much longer.
7) After you install your new (CFL) be sure to turn the light off when you leave the room. I'm on my wife all the time about leaving the light on. I suspect I do some things that she doesn't approve of. One would be that whole toilet seat up/down thing.
8) Turn off all your appliances that have standby features. It's amazing how much power these things draw. I'm talking about your PC, Stereo, TV, and Cable or Satellite Receiver. This also ties in with tip # 9.
9) Buy a power strip to plug all of the above into. Then you can turn them all off at the same time. You could also buy one with a built in surge protector. It doesn't cost much more and will protect all of your expensive equipment from lightning.
10) This is probably the most costly of all. Add insulation to your attic and or crawl space. Or you could install Radiant Barrier. Trust me this is easy. You can find Radiant Barrier where you buy your thermostat and CFLs. A 1,000Sq Ft roll is about $130. In my opinion it will do as good a job as adding insulation at half the cost. Again any handy man can install it for you in one day.

Save Money, Save Energy

The economy is struggling as are most Americans right along with it. We are looking for different ways to save some money. Whether it is cutting down on driving the car to save on gas, clipping coupons, or reusing items more than once, everyone is doing their own part to save a few bucks on the bottom line.

One of the areas you can save some money on right now is energy costs. When I say energy I mean a combination of electrical, heating, ac, and water usage. Adding in small savings from all of these areas could add up to big savings.

Electrical is the easiest to save some money on. Without spending thousands of dollars on a solar panel system for your roof tops, here are some more realistic approaches you can implement right now to help save on costs. First replace your incandescent light bulbs with CFLs in the rooms that you use the most. The federal government has shown that this can save up to $120 per year in savings on electrical costs. Remember to unplug all appliances that are not in use. Many appliances still draw power even though you are not using them. The easiest option is to plug you appliances into a surge protector outlet strip and then shut off the strip to ensure no power is being drawn.

Regardless of whether you have a gas clothes dryer or one that runs off electric, a clothes dryer uses large amounts of energy that cost a whole bunch of money. During the warmer months use a clothes line. I read one estimate where savings for the average household that uses a clothesline over a clothes dryer topped $750 for the year. Now I won't say you will save that much, but then again depending on how often you use the dryer, you could save more.

Staying with our clothes theme, let's turn to your washer. Most of the energy used by a washer occurs when the water is being heated. Drop the hot was cycles and choose cold. Many detergents today are engineered to work in colder temperatures for this reason. Also choose the correct water level. There is no need to select extra large if you are doing a medium sized load.

When it comes to heating and air conditioning there are some easy steps you can take to help reduce costs. For instance in the winter time drop your heat a degree or two at night when you go to bed and when no one is home. No sense in heating the home if no one is there. Invest in a good programmable thermostat so you can program your house temperatures that are convenient to you and your family. Same goes for AC in the summertime. When no one is home raise the temperature so the AC is not cooling a house as often when it is empty. If you do not have central AC, make sure you get the right size window or room unit for where it will be used. You wouldn't buy a 50,000 BTU window unit for a 9x9 room. You get the point.

These are just a few of the many ways you can make alterations to your current lifestyle and save money in the process. Overall these tasks won't take more than a few minutes of your time, but the monetary savings will be well worth it.

Make Your Own Domestic Solar Panels on the Cheap!

Wouldn't it be nice if you could make your own domestic solar panels and cut your electricity bills for good? Many homeowners thought so too, but lack the knowledge to create their own home energy solutions. In fact, many people still think that the only way to install solar panels is to go for commercially available solutions. But nothing can be further from the truth. Let's take a closer look!

Ready-made solar panel systems are expensive. You're looking at several thousands of dollars for solar panel kits. Customized solutions are even costlier. Typical installation cost averaged around $30,000 for complete installation for an average-sized home. These figures are certainly beyond the budget for most families.

A far cheaper and more cost-effective alternative is make your own domestic solar panels. There are many reasonably-priced instruction manuals that show you step-by-step how to do it. As many of these are designed for the DIY novice, the instructions are easy to follow.

Even the hardware required are commonly available, such as plywood, strong glass sheets, electrical wiring, common workshop tools and photovoltaic cells. Most of these can be acquired from your local hardware store. If you're the handy sorts, you may even have some of these at home, especially the tool kit. For photovoltaic cells, you can either get these from local retailers, or the internet (such as ebay) for absolute convenience.

What's the total outlay, you ask? Well, you're looking at a low $200 for a basic set up that can power a few decent appliances. This basic system certainly won't power your entire home. But here's the best thing...you can build the solar panels to any specifications you desire, and to complement your home design. Once you learned the basics, you've the flexibility to expand the system to eventually power your home completely! And if you look around for good deals for the parts online, you can even get it done for under $1,000 to $1,500...a HUGE savings over professional installation!

So why not make your own domestic solar panels and start harnessing electricity for free?

Save Money With Solar Panels - The Cost is Getting Competitive

The thing Mr. Obama said which especially caught my attention was this: "We will harness the sun and the winds"... In other words, the President declares a focus on renewable energy sources here.

Now, what's that got to do with you and your life here and now, you may wonder. Well, for one thing, do you know what solar panels could do for you? Yes, I am talking about those photovoltaic cells which used to be very exclusive high-tech gadgets. So expensive actually, that they were primarily used to power satellites orbiting in space.

This was back in the 1960s, but solar cells have come a long way since then.

Traditionally, solar cells used to be made from silicon crystals. These crystals needed to have very special properties to be of use as solar energy collectors, and were therefore very difficult to make.

Nowadays, however, many years of intensive research have resulted in the development of solar cells made from other, cheaper materials. Therefore there are several different varieties of solar cells on the market now, too many to go into here.

The main difference among them is that...

-- Some varieties have an extremely high conversion efficiency (meaning they convert a high percentage of the sun's energy to electric energy.) They are a bit expensive to produce, however.

-- While other solar cells are slightly less efficient, but really cheap to make.

Yes indeed, cheap solar panels are now available on the market! Actually, they are getting so cheap that people are beginning to talk about "grid parity".

Grid parity means that a source of electric power is getting down to a production cost at the same level as the cost of electricity delivered on the grid -- into your electrical outlet at home.

In other words: you can expect to be able to install solar panels on your home, and make your own electric power, at a cost no higher than the price you pay right now to your utility company. And with some do-it-yourself work, you may even end up saving money. How does that sound to you?

4 Ways to Make Money by Converting Your Home to a Wind Energy Home

Today it's never been easier, smarter, or more lucrative to convert your home into a wind energy home. Today there are a number of easy to use guides which detail how you can use everyday household materials to construct a fully operational and attractive windmill to power your home. If you think that it's not for you or it's too difficult, consider these 4 ways in which to monetize from your own wind energy home.

Utility Costs - The first and most cost effective reason to own a wind energy home is from the massive savings in utility costs that you can enjoy each year. The average household spends approximately $2500 a year on electricity alone. That's a large sum of money which could undoubtedly be better spent elsewhere if you had it.

Surplus of Energy - Wind energy home owners who produce more natural electricity than they consume in a given month can sell that extra electricity back to the power company for its worth in power. This is why home owners with large plots of extra land construct multiple windmills and generate large abundances of power. They easily pull in enough electricity to sell to power companies and make enough annually to live off of and then some. You can do this, as well, but probably on a smaller scale to bring in some much appreciated extra income each month. With each additional windmill that you implement, your natural electricity output exponentially increases.

Tax Breaks - The government is very lenient on wind energy home owners come tax season in the form of tax breaks. Those home owners who not only reduce the artificial power company electricity which they consume but also create enough to sell back experience additional savings as, in the government's eyes, they are not only reducing the amount of artificial electricity which they consume, but how much other home owners consume, as well. Now that the Obama administration has taken over, you can expect extra tax cuts given their emphasis and support for green energy.

Selling Windmills - In getting back to the windmills themselves, these guides can easily teach you how to build your own windmills. These guides are designed with the least technologically adept people in mind and with the intent that anyone is able to make a fully functioning windmill. Many people have found it so easy in the past that they've gone on to construct several windmills for themselves or to give or sell to the friends, neighbors, or even make a tidy side business out of it. These wind energy home owners have really embraced green energy and are enjoying every profitable aspect of it at that.

Solar Panels For Homes - Solar Power to Save Home Electricity Bills

If you own a house, every end of the month you will see a large electricity bills. Electricity is one of the largest expenses in running a household. We need electric power for heating, cooking, cleaning and to run all the electrical equipments at home. Are there any ways to reduce our home power consumption? One solution is to implement solar panels for homes. This article will provide some information on using renewable energy such as solar for residential unit.

The idea of using solar panels for homes is to collect the sun energy and convert it into power. To do so, we have to construct solar array on the rooftop. A solar array is made from multiple solar cells linked together in series and attached to a flat wooden platform. Solar cell is also known as Photovoltaic (PV) and is made from a special semiconductor material which is capable of producing an electric current when exposed to sunlight. When the sun is shining, the power generated by the solar panels can be directed into a deep cycle batteries bank. The battery will store only Direct Current (DC). Since most of our home electrical appliances run on Alternate Current (AC), we need to use an inverter to change the DC to AC.

The utilization of solar panels for homes is fast expanding. Many people are starting to take notice on environmental issues such as global warming, pollution, rising energy cost etc. One way we can take part in helping the planet is through the usage of renewable energy such as solar power at home.

How to Make Solar Panels at Home

Solar power is a very good source of power as it is renewable, environmental friendly and free. It would be a very nice idea to have a solar power system at home. However, due to the high setup cost ($2000 or more), not many people would use this system.

Make your Solar Panel

If you think buying a solar power system is too expensive for you, you can make it yourself with a much lower budget. You will need a solar panel first. You will use solar cells, wood plate, soldering iron, solder, flux, and tabbing to make a panel. These items are easy to get from local stores and you would not need any special tool. Even a novice can make it without problem.

Other part of the system

After you have finished the panel, you will need to connect the panel with other parts to make a whole solar power system. These parts include battery, charge controller and inverter. Inverter is used to convert the dc produced by solar panel to ac that we use. Battery is used to store residue energy for use at night or when the sunlight not good enough to produce enough electricity. The charge controller prevents the battery from overcharging. After you complete the system you should be able to run some appliances in your home for free. If you want to use solar energy to power the whole home you will need to build a system with more solar panels. It just depends on the power usage of your home. Usually it would not cost you a lot.

Home Solar Electricity - Save Home Energy Costs With A Solar Power System

Living an energy efficient and green lifestyle is fast becoming a trend nowadays. This new awareness has led many people to find ways on how they can reduce their total energy consumption. One such solution is via using a home solar electricity system. Since our home power usage one of our largest energy utilization, finding ways to reduce its consumption will yield big benefits. How does a home solar power system works? This article will provide some useful information on the subject.

A home solar electricity system works by building solar arrays on rooftops. The function of the arrays is to harness the sun energy and convert it to electric power. A solar array is made from multiple solar cells soldered together in a series circuit. Solar cell or Photovoltaic (PV) is made from a semiconductor element and is capable of producing an electric current when exposed to sun light. The current generated from the array is channeled into batteries bank through a charge controller. The function of the charge controller is to regulate the charging process and prevents any current back flow to the array. Since a battery can only store Direct Current (DC), the system would have to utilize an inverter to change the DC to Alternate Current (AC). AC is used to power most of the electrical appliance in our house.

Many home owners are fast becoming aware of environmental issue such as pollution and global warming. It is about time we start using renewable energy to help heal Mother Nature. By using home solar electricity, we are taking the first step is living an energy efficient and green lifestyle.

Most importantly, they can help their owners save a lot of energy costs by producing electricity cheaply and efficiently.

If you are looking for ways to avoid paying for expensive electric bills, I would highly recommend you to make your own systems.

1. Building Home Solar Energy Systems for Running your House

This type of system is able to create electrical power very cheaply since sunlight is free and always available during the day. Batteries can also be setup to store excess electricity created for use during times when the system is unable to convert any sunlight (like in the night).

2. How Do Home Solar Energy Systems Work?

This type of renewable energy system consists of panels that are specially designed to capture the most energy from sunlight in the day. The panels will then be able to convert sun energy into DC electrical power which is then converted into AC electricity with an inverter. This AC electric can then be channeled into the house to be used to power appliances and equipments.

3. What Are Some of The Benefits of Powering your House with Home Solar Energy Systems?

It does not create any harmful and hazardous components during its conversion processes, unlike the burning of fossil fuels. Also, it can produce electricity for almost no costs and helps to keep the owner's monthly expenses down significantly.

How to Live Off the Grid

Would you like to learn how to live off the grid? If you want to learn how to do this, you will first need to understand how such a system works and how you can assemble it. Living off the grid requires you to have a system that can produce electricity on its own without having to extract electric from the power company. You can also choose to install a backup battery system to store excessive electricity generated for future use.

1. Why Should We Choose to Live Off The Grid?

By living off the grid, we can prevent more pollution to the environment that traditional methods like burning of fossil fuels have done. Making your own electricity to run your house is also much more efficient than using it to run a huge place like a big company.

2. How to Live Off the Grid?

To be able to do so, you will either need to purchase the system at retail price or learn to build it yourself. I personally chose to build it myself as buying it retail is far too expensive. I have discovered that building it myself is much cheaper and now that I know what are the materials used, I know that it is not worth buying a ready made system. 2 of the systems that I learned to build are solar panels and wind turbines.

3. Building Your Own Off the Grid Energy System

I would recommend you to build either a solar based system or a wind based one, since they are the cheapest to build and are most effective.

Thousands of people have already eliminated their own home electricity bills with the free energy systems that they learned how to build with a step-by-step guide online. You can find out more about how to build these homemade power systems at the website link below.

Save Money and Build Your Own Solar Panels

Alternative energy is a hot topic everywhere these days. More people than ever before are interested in using renewable energy. Solar power is one of the easiest ways to generate electrical power from renewable energy.

The major drawback facing the majority of homeowners is the huge cost of hiring a contractor to install a solar power system. Most homeowners are shocked at the cost of hiring someone to install solar panels. Faced with the very large initial cost, many people simply give up on the idea of solar power as a home energy alternative.

But times are rapidly changing and the information is readily available so anyone can educate themselves on the basics of solar energy and solar panels. Gone are the days when solar power was available only to the most affluent or powerful. Today anyone can learn to easily build their own alternative energy system and reap the benefits of free, renewable energy. No longer do people think of solar panels as more science fiction than reality.

Solar panels work on the basis of photovoltaic cells turning light (photo) into electricity (voltaic). The materials used in making solar panels differ, but silicon is the most common. Silicon solar cells are semiconductors in solid state and are able to generate current when stimulated by photons.

Silicon solar cells are comprised of four types: single crystal or monocrystalline, polycrystalline which is sometimes referred to as multicrystalline, amorphous cells, and hybrids of the monocrystalline and amorphous cells. All of these have their particular uses, but single crystal cells are generally recognised as being the most efficient in terms of producing energy.

But enough of the science lessons. The simple truth is you do not need an engineering degree or even be an electrician to build an efficient solar power system for your home. It is definitely not rocket science. Anyone anywhere can build and install solar panels. It really is far simpler than most people realize. Can you change a tire? If you answered yes, then you can build solar panels.

As in any task, proper knowledge and guidance is critical. Without a proper blueprint, you most likely will not succeed. Knowledge is indeed power, and with the right guidance building and installing solar panels is not difficult at all. Take the time to learn how to do it right, and you can begin reaping the benefits of solar energy far easier and cheaper than you ever imagined.
