Solar power is a very good source of power as it is renewable, environmental friendly and free. It would be a very nice idea to have a solar power system at home. However, due to the high setup cost ($2000 or more), not many people would use this system.
Make your Solar Panel
If you think buying a solar power system is too expensive for you, you can make it yourself with a much lower budget. You will need a solar panel first. You will use solar cells, wood plate, soldering iron, solder, flux, and tabbing to make a panel. These items are easy to get from local stores and you would not need any special tool. Even a novice can make it without problem.
Other part of the system
After you have finished the panel, you will need to connect the panel with other parts to make a whole solar power system. These parts include battery, charge controller and inverter. Inverter is used to convert the dc produced by solar panel to ac that we use. Battery is used to store residue energy for use at night or when the sunlight not good enough to produce enough electricity. The charge controller prevents the battery from overcharging. After you complete the system you should be able to run some appliances in your home for free. If you want to use solar energy to power the whole home you will need to build a system with more solar panels. It just depends on the power usage of your home. Usually it would not cost you a lot.
